Getting Disability Certificate for Down syndrome is easy now
Subsequent to the meeting that Mr. N. Ramachandran has had with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on the 15th of October 2019, the Ministry has sent the attached message to all State Governments
Further to the first meeting, Mr. Ramachandran along with colleagues from Delhi made a power point presentation to the ministry on the reasons for obtaining Disability Certificate at birth as well as inclusion of Down syndrome as a separate disability in the list of disabilities. During this meeting, the Ministry was kind enough to take the view that an administrative recommendation now be made to ensure that the Disability Certificate is given at birth, subject to Karyotyping being done at birth.
The Federation is following up on the issue and we will keep you informed on the progress. This can be considered a major victory for Persons with Down syndrome
