World Down Syndrome Day 2018 Celebrations in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Awareness Camp - A camp for Down syndrome was organized at Coimbatore by Genomm. Dr. Pradeep who organized this event in association with the Bharatiyar University had organized a Medical Camp there.There were other activities too like a Flash Mob, some cultural events and a walkathon to celebrate this special Day.

World Down Syndrome Day 2018 Celebrations in Kerala

Kerala State Down Syndrome Support Group Formed-DoST (The Down Syndrome Trust), along with IAP was able to form the 'Kerala State Down Syndrome Support Group' on March 11th 2018 at a meeting organised at IMA Hall, Kochi. Representatives from the various districts in Kerala were present and Mr. Nazar Babu T. from Calicut was elected as the President of the group along with Ms. Rincy Joseph from Changanassery as the Secretary.

DoST was responsible for initiating the Support Groups at Amrita, Kochi and at Trichur. Groups in Alleppey, Trivandrum and Kottayam were also the initiatives of DoST along and IAP. The group at Changanassery was the initiative of Ms. Rincy Joseph.The need of a state level organisation was felt for quite some time and DoST was able to make it a reality now. Along with the help of IAP, a district level co-ordinator is planned which will help to have well formed groups in all the districts of Kerala.

The WDSD is planned in big manner this year at the Town Hall (Invitation attached) In addition to the usual programmes, we are giving two DoST Awards to:

1) Dr.Jayaraj MK, former Principal of State Institute of the Mentally Challenged and the single-man commission appointed by the government to study the status of persons with Intellectual disability in the state.

2) Ms. Dhanya Vijayan; a person with DS, a Bharathanatyam exponent, who has been appointed as the Dance teacher of a special school in Calicut. - A Role model and a Self advocate.The DoST Awards were initiated in the year 2016
