Celebrating Pongal with Joy and Unity at Mathru Mandir
The Pongal celebrations at Mathru Mandir, home to the Down Syndrome Federation of India, were filled with joy and togetherness. Children and parents came together to create beautiful Rangolis, with kolams made in intricate designs. The festive spirit was alive as moms and children danced to celebrate the event, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The events began with a prayer to honor the harvest and seek blessings for prosperity.
Although the traditional Pongal dish wasn’t made, its depiction added to the charm of the event. Children were asked to add the Rice, the dal and the jaggery to the pot. In a playful and symbolic moment, children broke balloons that depicted the traditional earthen pots, known as uri adi, which are hung at a height and broken during Pongal celebrations. This fun activity brought a sense of tradition and excitement to the gathering.
The celebration ended with a healthy meal of fruits and milk, in keeping with the observance of Ekadasi, a day when many people observe a fruit fast. The day was a beautiful mix of cultural celebration, inclusivity, and shared happiness, leaving everyone with cherished memories.
