Our Self-Advocates Are Going Places!
At the Down Syndrome Federation of India, we are proud to witness a remarkable shift — our self-advocates are not just participating, they are leading. They are no longer only being celebrated; they are now taking the stage to celebrate others.
A shining example of this evolution is Ms. Babli Ramachandran, a talented Bharatanatyam dancer who has completed her arangetram (debut solo performance). Babli was recently invited as the Chief Guest at a dance recital by Mr. Gurushankar. It was a proud and emotional moment for all of us as the young dancer sought Babli’s blessings and she, in turn, shared her appreciation and thoughts on the performance with grace and confidence.
This event was more than a celebration of art — it was a celebration of inclusion, achievement, and mutual respect. To see our self-advocates stepping into roles of honor, offering critique, and being looked up to, fills our hearts with joy and pride.
Our community is witnessing a powerful transformation. From being participants to becoming judges, from being felicitated to offering felicitations — our self-advocates are truly going places. Their journeys are inspiring, and their contributions are helping society see ability, not disability.
Let us continue to celebrate and support them as they shine in every role they embrace.
