Baking workshop
New Baking Workshop Rises at DSFI Chennai Centre
The Down Syndrome Federation of India’s Chennai centre has added a new flavour to its pre-vocational training programme — a baking workshop designed to give young adults with Down syndrome hands-on skills for future employment and independence.
The workshop introduces trainees to the basics of baking: Each session is paced to build confidence step by step, with trainers breaking tasks into simple, repeatable sequences that trainees can master and eventually perform independently.
Beyond the technical skills, the workshop is helping participants develop focus, fine motor coordination, patience, and the ability to follow multi-step instructions — all valuable life skills that extend well beyond the kitchen.
The baking workshop is part of DSFI Chennai’s broader pre-vocational training initiative, which aims to prepare individuals with Down syndrome for meaningful work opportunities — whether in supported employment, small home-based ventures, or eventually, their own baking enterprises.
