Learning Today, Working Tomorrow
Every Saturday, the DSFI Centre in Chennai buzzes with excitement as around 17 children and young adults with Down syndrome, along with their parents, come together for our Pre-Vocational Training Programme. The goal is simple—to help each participant build the skills, confidence and independence needed for future employment and meaningful community participation.
From baking delicious treats to crafting colourful handmade soaps, every activity teaches valuable workplace skills such as following instructions, maintaining hygiene, teamwork, time management and completing tasks with care. More importantly, participants experience the pride of creating products with their own hands.
The programme also includes Yoga sessions to improve fitness, concentration and well-being, along with weekly home assignments that reinforce daily living skills like organisation, personal responsibility and independent decision-making.
Since the classes are held only on Saturdays, participants can continue attending their regular schools during the week while gaining practical vocational experience. With every session, they move one step closer to becoming confident, capable adults who are better prepared for the world of work and independent living.
At DSFI, we believe that every skill learned today opens the door to opportunities tomorrow.
