Inauguration of the Pre-Vocational Training Programme
Down Syndrome Federation of India Launches the First Pre-Vocational Training Programme for Self-Advocates with Down syndrome.
The Down Syndrome Federation of India (DSFI) has launched the first Pre-Vocational Training Programme for self-advocates with Down syndrome at its centre – Mathru Mandir in Mylapore, Chennai. The inaugural batch was formally launched on Saturday, 6 June 2026, marking an important step towards enhancing skill development and promoting greater independence for persons with Down syndrome.
The programme was inaugurated by Ms.Babli Ramachandran, an inspiring achiever who is a national-level swimmer, an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer, and a yoga teacher, with numerous awards and recognitions to her credit.
The first phase of the training programme offers courses in:
Baking
Block Printing
Soap Making
These courses have been designed to help participants develop practical skills, build confidence, and explore future livelihood opportunities in a supportive and inclusive environment.
DSFI plans to gradually expand the programme by introducing additional vocational and life-skills training modules, creating more opportunities for self-advocates to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society.
Through this initiative, DSFI reaffirms its commitment to empowering persons with Down syndrome by promoting skill development, self-reliance, and inclusion within the community.
